General Music Classes PreK-5th Grade
August/September 2017
Preschool
Preschool will begin this year in music by exploring musical sounds, how to treat instruments when playing them, and move and dance to songs about the world and our Lord.
Kindergarten
Kindergarten will start the school year by discovering non-pitched percussion instruments. We will get excited about a new year while singing to Pete the Cat: Rockin' in My School Shoes book, and move to nursery rhymes and poems like "Ring Around the Rosie" and "Who's That Tappin' at the Window"
1st Grade
1st Grade will start this year reviewing instruments they learned last year like the tone bar instrument an alto xlyophone. We will move to rhymes like "Hickory Dickory Dock" and start learning about ostinatos in songs like "Starlight, Starbright".
2nd Grade
2nd Grade will be excited to start music this year! We will reviewing our singing skills through "Michael Row the Boat Ashore", do a rhythm scavenger hunt, and dance to "Old Dan Tucker".
3rd Grade
3rd grade has a load of exploration ahead! We will review our so/mi/la melodies from last spring, work on an instrument song about "Listening to the Sounds of the Instruments" and practice a clapping game to "Long Legged Sailor".
4th Grade
4th grade gets to start recorders this year! We will continue to work on our treble clef note names, start a rhythm stick routine to "Yankee Doodle", review our so/mi/la/do melodies from last spring and start a new percussion ensemble song about a "Tiny Surfer".

5th Grade
5th grade is preparing to be musically talented Academy students. We will review our treble and bass clef note names, practice our 2-part singing through a round, and start dancing to "Oh Susanna".
